too late to plant rye grass?

has anyone planted rye grass this time of the year and been satisfied with the results?

we kept getting flooded out in the fall and i didnt get it planted. just wondering if now would work ??

i normally can turn in on it late feb or early march. would it have time to establish a good root system in a month?

Others on here may be able to advise you if they had some idea where you live.

Just a curiosity question; Why don't you put your location on here like a lot of others do?

In Central Texas it will come up now but by the time it gets big enough to produce grazing the hot weather would have set in and it would go dorment also the spring grasses would be proudicing by then. You would not get the expense of planting the seed back.

I have broadcast it out on bare ground this time of year and gotten pretty good results. A $25 dollar bag will plant 2.5 acres so there is not much to lose. You can probably graze it from Mid April to the end of May. Guess it depends on how much you need it. You can wait a while on the fertilizer to see if you get a stand.

I planted some around Christmas. Just sowed it on of eaten down grass. It is comeing up good now, nice green shine to the pasture. It will come on good in march an April.

Had an opportunity to pasture drill some a few weeks back. What I managed to pasture drilled in late November is beginning to come out, but the rest of the pastures look bare. Not much volunteering as it has in the past. I'm beginning to think I should have spent a little money on seed now.
