It looks like he put him in the wall but ts had him beat going into the turn . When you set your car up in the turn it drifts to the wall . Ward was back a half a car or so and should have checked up . If he stayed in his car instead of trying to be a hot shot he wouldn't have gotten hit . Sprint cars are direct drive . No clutch you don't just slow down to desired speed . Dark track along with a dark suit mud on his tear offs . Not to mention its hard to see out of a race car set up to turn left . It was a tragic accident .
And no brakes, steering wheels and in this case, no brains behind the steering wheel evidently. To see so many cars get by Ward without hitting him, then see the only other guy that was involved with the wreck, a driver with as much or more experience than any or all the other drivers combined come up high under a yellow and hit Ward?? It was just as dark for all the other drivers as it was for Stewart--and they all had the same set up as Stewart, but only he ended up that high and hit Ward. Go figure.
Buy in to it if you want to--I'm not.
Circle the wagons and call out the damage control troops.
By tomorrow morning, everyone will be calling Stewart a hero--or at least a victim.
The wreck itself is inconsequential--it happens 1/2 dozen times per race at the sprint races held about 8 miles from me every Sat night--that's one of the draws for the fans. It's simply part of dirt track racing.
And yes, Ward definitely should have stayed in his car, and he would be alive today. Then again, if he hadn't been at the track, he would also be alive.
There is no excuse for a driver of Stewart's caliber and experience to NOT be able to avoid running over when all the rest of the drivers were (miraculously?) able to drive under him, but all the Stewart fanboys are conspicuously ignoring that fact.
