Thinking about planting about 20 acres of tifton 9 Bahia.Any one planted this and how did you like it. Shows production in the 11000 lb of hay in a good growing season. So this 20 acres would have the potential of making 220 1000 lb rolls.

There are some really nice Tifton 9 Bahia fields around here. it makes nice hay. The recovery time on T9 is pretty quick. It needs to be cut every 32 days, goes kind of dormant after then.
It will not produce the tons per acre that the Bermuda grasses will. It still makes good hay. All Bahia grasses are tough on mower blades.
I have some Tifton 9 for pasture and like it. It holds up to grazing well and does not have to be pampered once established.

I've cut it for hay before but prefer it for grazing. It has a longer growing season than Bermuda so you need to keep that in mind when you are figuring your expected yield per cutting. I typically got about 3 rolls/acre which I felt was pretty poor. Ugly hay but the cows liked it.
