Thorn Trees?

I am in the process of buying 70 acres. It is mostly pasture with some woods. There are 4 very large thorn trees in one area and there are lots of very small (2-3 ft. tall) thorn trees (or bushes I guess) scattered throughout the pasture. Someone told me that bush-hogging them would only spread them and make them worse. What is the best way to eliminate them? Thanks,

In the spring a basal spray of diesel and Remedy

Dun's advice is right on. Here is a recipe for making a stream-line basal bark treatment:

3/4 gal. of Remedy
38 oz. of penetrating surfactant (Cide Kick II)
1.95 gal. diesel

Spray a 2 to 3 inch band on each stem where the bark is slick. Turns them a pretty golden color in about 2 weeks. Easy to go back and see which ones you missed.

3/4 of a gallon of Remedy at the price of Remedy? :shock: We do the same type of spraying with great results and only use 8 oz. of Remedy to the same mixture as you use. Minus the Cide Kick II with diesel in a 3 gal. sprayer. ;-)

Seemed like overkill to me too. We use 8 oz Remedy per gallon of diesel, no surficants.
