Kills of that species have been going on for decades.
400,000 of the same species and same Kazakhstan herd died in 1988.
I've read several reports and haven't seen anything related to cause of death other than pasturella and clostridia.
researchers suspect an immune system deficiency that allows one or both those bacteria to overcome the animal's ability to cope with them.

I read the same stuff. Seems every few years they have a mass die off, maybe that's why they are highly endangered.
