Find an experienced cattleman in your area that would be willing to help. From them you can determine what breeds work in your area and may be able to help with starter animals or accompany you to the sale barn.

Make certain you have your infrustructure completely in place before you take delivery of any animals.

After research develop a plan and stick with it. Storeys guide to Raising Beef Cattle has always been helpful for newbies.
