We moved to SC KY 7 & 1/2 years ago from MI. We left because we felt the urban sprawl pushing us out. We just want to farm and dairy a small place. Here there is very little ground that is suitable for crop production. Mostly hills. We try to rent some additional land, but the owners only want us to keep it mowed, for free. No long term contracts. Now it seems that the moveins(unlike us) want all the amenities of town. Great for retirement. They want shopping!!!!!! Grrrrrrr!!! Not us. A super Stuff-mart within a half hour where ever you live. Thanks for letting me vent.
 
How about picking a different state, want to farm maybe WI, I use to live there, but honestly I never would farm in WI, too much work, too much winter. Ever think about Missouri?

If the Governor of MO has his way, there will be Grants (not loans!!!) for startup of dairy farms in Missouri......... you might think about that.

I already have a working dairy farm, but if he wants to give us dairy people some free money, we will take it, but I wouldn't count on it, being that drought we had for 2 years, well our county the good ole govt said wasn't included in that, so we didn't get that free money. Good if it happens, but never count on it, is my belief.
