not on their side period, so dont think im taking up for them but there where alot less cars back then to.....but they gonna make it hard on the rancher no matter what..they figure its easier to go after the little man

There were probably also many many more industries etc. fired by coal and other things leaving those huge "carbon footprints" back in the '20's.

Any gas produced by ruminants is recycled through the plants grazed and browsed, the tansport system and other industries use fossil fuels with carbon that has been 'sealed' for Millenia, that is the first and most important difference. I believe worldwide there are far less ruminants than here were a few hundred years ago if historical observations are accurate. Certainly in Rhodesia, I saw old photos of an area in the south belonging to my wife's grandfather, with large herds of cape buffalo and antelope, including wildebeest, taken before the 1896 rinderpest outbreak, today here are still far fewer animals than there were then, and as a result of insufficient grazing pressure, the area is semi desert, whereas in the pictures, there was lush, waist high grass. If we remove more ruminants, we will see more grassland deteriorate into desert.

I've never actually heard a scientist say this. I've heard it stated on the news. I've read it in the paper but every scientist that I have heard speak on the subject has emphatically stated that they did not believe this to be true.

I think it also interesting that when you pump CO2 into a closed environment the plants thrive and produce more oxygen.

If I'm concerned about anything, it is the world's population growth coupled with urban sprawl consuming valuable farmland that will be needed to feed the people. Other than that, one of those big a$$ meteors hitting the earth is running a close second. No matter what, I'm sure the earth will survive its us that I'm doubtful about.

Not to split hairs, and I say this with humor. .... but for those who livelyhood depend on Hummer brand, as MY household does (not very well I must say over the past few months) the H3 gets the same as any OTHER small/mid sized SUV at 18+ mpg, and the H2 gets the same as large trucks & Suburbans at 10-16.


AND - there are some very smart farmers out there that are turning their "gas" into energy! Watched a special on a fella who's entire operation was powered by the methane gas from the cows! So -get more cows get more get more "gas"!

Yes, I have. Have heard it many times from the back ends of calves as well.

Ya don't hear 'them' complaining about all the pharts coming out of horses or people or dogs. Howabout all the Co2 in bottled soft drinks?

What about all these 'new' discoveries in places that were once covered by snow and ice showing evidence of once lush farmlands, home-sites etc? Obviously the planet was warmer at one time, then froze over, now warming...hmmmm, sounds like a cyclical thing to me. The natural course of life in a bigger picture, as in thousands of years to complete the cycles.

I'm with Boogie, I'm more concerned about the planet becoming over populated to a point where there won't be enough ground to grow the food for humans to consume.

I will try to stop my rant, as I am not able to convey the thoughts succinctly enough.

Actually, we probably burn MORE coal today than we did then because of increased electrical power demands especially when you factor in India and China. You add in the incredible increase in the number of cars, trucks, and tractors and that the U.S. population has increased from 106 million to 304.7 million, while world population has increased from 1.76 billion in 1920 to 6.7 billion AND both populations have switched largely from an agrarian lifestyle to a much more urban lifestyle dependent on trucking, shipping, air transport, etc. then yes the carbon footprint is increasing. I am not ready to embrace the global warming theory or IF true view that as a bad thing; but they are right that a rising global economy DOES lead to more factories, more power plants, and more vehicles.

Sounds like the agenda of Al Gore and Maurice Strong along with the radical Malthusians who are drumming up all this junk. IE> population reductions, carbon emissions, global warming, Chicago Climate Exchange, and Carbon Credits..... It all spells bad news.
