A good customer of ours sold a big group of replacement heifers yesterday at Philip Livestock, they were lighter than last year, but still had a huge demand. Here is how they sold.

97 head of 547 lbs heifers brought $119.50/cwt
45 head of the same weight brought $112.00/cwt
218 head of 480 lbs heifers brought $115.50/cwt
110 head of 471 lbs heifers brought $113.50/cwt

Right after these sold a very nice set of Black replacement heifers weighing the same brought $98/cwt. :)

Looks like those cattle really rung the bell. Only significant difference was color?????

I can't say that for sure. Quality looked equal. The Red rancher has a good repuation for buying top genetics and cowboys always go after his heifers. I don't know much of anything about the black rancher. But so far this fall, I have seen quite a few groups of Red hiefers bring $1.10/cwt or higher where I have only seen 1 black group bring that kind of money. I think it comes down to a couple things, quality, and supply and demand.

Yep.....and it never hurts to have a good reputation for growing good calves. Folks will wait on them and pay a premium for them.

The momentum has changed as previously posted.

I've seen a slight change around here. Red's are closing the gap with blacks price wise, but still a ways to go. Don't know if they will ever match a brangus for our climate, but brafords are sure gaining in popularity.

$100 says black angus bulls breed those reds.

I will take that bet. I know who got them. They will be bred back to Red bulls.

I would say you are correct. I throw in another 100 that blacks will breed the reds to.

I will take your bet too. :)
