Thanksgiving....

First I want to wish all of my dear friends south of the border a very Happy Thanksgiving .....

I know that this is always a big week for you and some even feel that it is celebrated more than Christmas. So my question is :
What will you all be doing to celebrate it and how many people do you usually have over (go to) for your wonderful meal ? Also how long does it last, just the one day or the whole weekend through ?

Thank you HD. We plan to have thanksgiving with my daughter and son in law and his parents. Hopefully it will just be quiet day of good food, good fellowship and thanksgiving. (And maybe a little football). We have much to be thankful for and always have had.....but Christmas is MY favorite day...a day to really be thankful. ;-)

Smoked tenderloin, is that beef or pork. I have never heard of that, how do you prepare it ?

Thanks for asking, HD. I thought Canada had a Thanksgiving holiday, too, just on a different day??

There will be around 15 family members. This is smaller than usual, we should have 22 but some from out of town just can't make it this year. Mom likes to host and is still plenty capable of doing it. She is making ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes and a couple desserts. Everybody else brings more side dishes and/or desserts. We always say that we need to get together more often, but in reality this is probably the only time I will get to see my cousins and my only surviving uncle until next Thanksgiving. So I am really looking forward to it.

Thursday to Inlaws 40 miles away for Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing and home made rolls and pies. Friday we go to my relatives 275 miles away for the weekend. And of course more great food. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

we had our thanksgiving dinner with the family last nite.there was 9 here last nite.an every1 was fighting over who got to hold the great nephew/great granbaby boy.thanksgiving day we are either going to the church to have lunch with friends or going to my uncles.but other than that itll be a quiet day.

Will be going to my brothers, whole family will be there ~ all siblings. My youngest sister spends part of the day with her in-laws, they have MANY people over, a lot of extended family. For ours we are having turkey and a bunch of other stuff. Normally we would have duck stuffed with apple/raisin dressing which is my absolute favorite, but this year SiL is cooking so its turkey. We eat and, since I can no longer digest food in a vertical position, I take a nap after saying I ate too much and will not eat again til Christmas. We watch football and play cards. We break the wish bone, I am always at one end of that. We draw names for Christmas gifts. When the game is over we put the food back on the table and I ......eat. :help: :stop:

My mom has 2 pumpkin pies in her oven right now. They are cooked, they are just in there hiding while she is at work. Think I might go make sure they are ok before they go on the table tomorrow. Small piece from each. Just looking out for the family, cause I am willing to take one for the team, its another small sacrifice..... :nod:

Sounds like it will be a wonderful day for all of you. Our Thanksgiving was in Oct. we usually have a duck and a turkey when family puts it on if. I host it, it is always prime rib.

Going to sons home,eating way too much of whatever he cooks.. Daughter and hubby will be there.. We treasure each time we are able to get thgether,as she and I are both ill..

I'm working today, taking calls. So far it's been quiet (which is why I can peruse CT...hehe) but I sure don't
want to jinx myself and the other dispatchers!

Will be going with my hubby over to my brother and sister-in-law's new home for dinner on my break around 4pm.

Pretty standard and tasty fare; turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes & gravy, lefsa, pies, veggies of some kind,
ALL GOOD! I'll be a pretty stuffed turkey myself when I come back to work!

Our Thanksgiving has dwindled as well... growing up we had a big family gathering that included turkey and ham (which was ALWAYS over cooked, but we loved it regardless) plus all the trimmings, dessert, ping pong in the basement, cards for the "adults".. or whatever someone could think up. But as we all got older, it was harder and harder for everyone to get together. So it's pretty much my husband and I now. I cook a big meal anyway, and we eat for a couple of days and freeze whatever is left over! I made a killer blackberry cobbler this year. My mom is local, but it's hard for her to come out to the ranch.. I have to drive her here and back, so we take her out to eat, and then come home, do the chores, and enjoy again!

After dinner we all get dressed up in our best straight jackets and they turn us out into the main hall for happy hour. Then we all sing Christmas carols and listen to Barry Manteloe til we drift off to sleep. I love Thanksgiving.

The family and I went to Abilene yesterday in two different vehicles. Got Dad from the nursing home and started the rest of the journey. About a three hour drive by the time we take the back roads from Glen Rose to Stephenville and then on to I20. Arrived around eleven and left around three. At least my sons, Dad and I did. Steve stayed overnight. Dad did pretty well, better than last year. He's on some good anti Alzheimer's drugs this year. No sundowning and very little confusion on his part. I'm exhausted and I told Steve that I wasn't going to make a similar journey next year. I'm glad he could celebrate with his kids, mom and grandma, but for me, the trip is not worth it. Good food and fellowship but too tiring in the balance. The only place I'm going today is to haul some hay to my place. I don't do day after Thanksgiving shopping. Been there, done that. I will have to go to the grocery store also, but that can wait until this afternoon.

My dream is to spend Thanksgiving on an island somewhere...

We rented a beach house at Orange Beach on the Alabama coast. Kathy made a great Turkey dinner with an absolutely killer stuffing. We were not formal, just kinda snacked for three days and enjoyed the beach. One of the most relaxing and fun Thanksgiving I have had sence the kids grew up and left home. Lily had a great time.
