This will be our first Thanksgiving as Grandparents with two grandbabies by then. It is going to be different henceforth. My folks have passed and so have the wife's.

My wife is scheduled to work 8-5 Thanksgiving. She' Asst. Director of Nurses at a local nursing home and her and the DON take turns so she'll get Christmas off this year.

Oh well Hungry Man turkey ain't that bad.Z

By the time that my wife gets everything fixed that she considers a must for a proper Thanksgiving she is so tired and grouchy that it is no fun for anyone, so this year we are letting Ryans do the cooking.

Man, we are going our seperate ways this Thanksgiving. I am going to my folk's and my husband is going to see his mother in Abilene with his kids. His grandmother is too sick to travel and my parents are too old to drive. We usually do Thanksgiving here with all the relatives from both sides. Last year there were 11. His family always stays for a few days, and I am ready for them to leave after a day or so. No offense, I just want the house back and we end up sleeping wall to wall.

I think I am starting to miss the preparations, decorating the house, cleaning, getting the food... But I am with you. I begged my husband last year to just the two of us go away, like to Florida or something. But I guess it is all about family.

Just wish they would eat dinner and go home!!!! :shock:

BTW, lest you think I'm an old grouch, I guess I am. We have a glass topped dining table and by the time his family shuffles those dominos for the 12th time on that glass, you want a stiff drink and ear plugs! :lol:

You gave me a good chuckle on that one. Yeah, company's like fish, after three days....(you know the rest). And Cabo's wife isn't the only one who gets tired and grouchy. There's no getting around it, having company is hard work, especially with a big meal like that. Where've you been, Lammie, you've missed some 'interesting' conversations.

That's one of the advantages to living half way across the country from relatives.
We turn down all of the invites for thanksgiving dinner and know that we'll have at least one peacefull day wihtout somone "dropping in". Hooray to that.
We'll do our traditional baked ham and a huge pot of pinter beans and cornbread and call life good.

We will eat at my parents house this year. As they get the even years. All our family is within 15 minutes. Thanksgiving is great.

Christmas is what gets to be tiresome as you have to be everywhere.

No, I haven't missed a thing. It is all about my step daughter, usually. We like to play a rousing game of "Dartmouth Name Drop" during all major holidays. I guess she's gone to school with all the rich and famous. That being said, I would really dig it if she got a job!!! :roll:

You almost sound like a Texas with the pinto beans and cornbread. I prefer the baked ham myself. The wife likes to have turkey, both Thanksgiving and Christmas. First, I get to eat turkey, then turkey sandwiches, then turkey surprise. By the time New Years is here, man I'm turkeyed out!!

We will most likely have her brother and family up for Thanksgivng. My sister from Junction may drive over, depends on how her eye surgery has healed. My wife enjoys the cooking.

Twenty-one years ago, I was working on a drilling rig at Thanksgiving. My wife was due with our second child. Her folks were with her. She cooked Thanksgiving dinner for them and after cleaning the kitchen, labor started. Rachel was born about four hours later. I made it home on Friday to a healthy and happy wife and baby.

Last year I was baling hay due to too much rain during the summer. This year I will be worming and vaccinating the cows.

It looks like a war party around here at Thankgiving all the Kids and grandkids come in. We cook, hunt, play 42 hunting is a day and night activity. And by Sunday evening the prettiest sight is taillights.

Playing 42 is one of those traditions that will never go away. I did inherit Grandaddy's and Daddy's ivory dominoes. I look at those things and remember all the ancestors who have rattled them over the last century.

I always end up working, Got a couple Jobs that only close on Thanksgiving and Christmas and this is the only time I can do some special work that needs done to the floors. Don't want to ask my employees to work on holidays so I do it.
