If you have a 100 hogs you would have to kill 70% to keep the herd at the current level, impossible to do.

Dang hogs hit our place again. They tore one of our creep feeders up. Moved it about 500 feet from where it use to be. One neighbor told me they saw a big old black boar about 500 lbs. out that way the other night. He did quite a bit of damage before he left.
You know I don't understand,theres a friend of ours that traps them and sells them to a man about 10 miles from us. This idiot turns them loose again. We use to let him(our friend) trap on our place until we heard that. We want them out there not find their way back in a couple of weeks.

Joy you need to find some better friends than that!

Hogs leave my place in two methods. One way is an ice chest field dressed. The other is to the circuit buyers who market them on the East Coast.

There are plenty people who want live hogs. They can just keep on wanting.

One of our neighbors has started a pretty good business catching and selling wild hogs. They put them in a truck, seal it, and deliver them to somewhere near San Antonio. They are slaughtered almost immediately and the meat goes to Europe. He's tickled to make the extra money and everyone I know is tickled to give the hog population a hit. He's got traps all over the county and a holding pen for people to bring the ones they catch.

You won't get any daylight shots at them. If you jump 30 of them, they are in a dead run and it is night. That 270 is going to run the whole bunch head long into the fences for a couple of miles. Come daylight, no one around is going to be happy about it except the hardware stores who sell fencing materials.

Trapping them or putting dogs on them seems to work the best. The most I have trapped in one week is 41. There's no way you can take that many with a rifle.

If I were to go jump shooting at night, it would be with buckshot in pastures that are free of cattle.

There not very many nickels in that. They won't buy anything less than 80 lbs. It is cheaper to give them to friends than haul them. Anything under 250 lbs is 30 cents a pound.

The laws passed last year make it hard to make any nickels on feral hogs. Only certain folks can buy them now and they control the price. If they take prices any lower, they'd be completely out of business because no one would sell anything to them. Sad thing is, game preserves are more lucrative to kids who catch them. We don't want hogs going to game preserves. That is what caused this catastrophe to begin with.

I'll ask. They set traps on our place yesterday and caught a few. But the hogs have made trails over there, so maybe they'll do better tonight.

Every nickel helps. They throw the little ones in the load, too. The processor won't pay for them, but will "dispose" of them.

In this area a few guys wanted to hunt hogs and hauled a few of them in. And they've multiplied since then. I've been told that we'd need to kill a million wild hogs a year in Oklahoma to keep the population stable!

This boy has been hog hunting. 16 gauge with No1 buckshot is prefered weapon after dark.
First shot in daylight puts the hateful beast to nocturnal and the pack of hogs you are after tonight is six miles over at your neighbors tomorrow.

Caustic I don't own a 16 but if so, that would be fine. These dudes aren't migratory birds so I pull the plug out and load that 12 to the hilt.

Had a dog hunter tell me that there is a big group out between Lipan and Stephenville that like to run through herds of cattle when the dogs get on them. I knew whitetail would do that when coyotes got after fawns but never heard that about hogs until now.

BHB - I've seen small groups of hogs inter-mixed with my cattle. More then once I've looked out at the cattle and thought I don't have that many calves! Pull out the binocs and there are several hogs out there with them. The cows don't seem to pay any mind to the hogs at all. They walk with them like they are grazing too, it's weird I've never seen any of the deer with the cows like that.

I see deer with cattle when the deer run through them. If dogs or anything else start running deer, deer will run through the middle of a herd. Maybe to break up a scent trail? Maybe to put something between them and the predators?

I watched over 20 deer in the wheat with the cattle a few years back but the deer stayed bunched up and off to themselves. Cows don't have meat scent of predators so deer don't fear them much I guess. I see deer regularly. The hogs around here seem to only roam at night. They also seem to hit different places each night with no real patterns.

As much as I hate hogs and the damage hogs do, I have to admire their intelligence.
