What's the pasture situation and conditions like in Texas and others drought areas? Have heard different reports. One says the better and improving and the other says dry and for a while.

Where I'am at in middle Ga. it's getting bad. Last year we only had 11.6 inches of rain. This year so far only 0.4 inches, everybody within a 20 mi. radius is hurting for moisture. The weather radar looked really good wednesday, but we only got 0.3 inches. Glad we got some.
I'm in central texas and in my pastures where I have natural rye or planted rye the grass is doing well. In areas where there is no rye you have almost bare soil. I had about 50 acres burn off in a wild fire and I never got any rain before it got cold and that area is void of any foliage. We have had enough rain to bring my tanks up about 1 1/2 feet.

We are doing pretty good right now in my area. Still dryer than normal.

The upper layers of our soil are moist now. Because of the cool weather it is staying pretty well. Because of the drought leaving a lot of bare ground we have a lot more clover that has sprouted along with naturalized annual rye. If you dig down to about 2 feet you hit dry dirt again. It will take a lot of ongoing rain to recover. I here I should not be looking for that to happen. I'm not going out buying any high dollar cows or heifers just yet.
