So I hurt myself loading cattle yesterday. Nasty charliehorse on the thigh.
any how, hubby is at the sale...red and black. I was disappointed that i could not go. I am watching on line...how cool is that?

It is so friggin windy here today I am scared to go outside...gusts of 90 km/h...

HD must be the same wind we are having down here. Dog's don't want outside, barn cats are hiding and birds are in their house.

We sold our calves on Friday,
The Steers Avg'd 553 lbs @ $101.85, $562.
6 hfrs Avg'd 546 lbs @ 83.90, $457.

We topped out on 2 steers weighing 657 lbs @ 99. $650.

The heifers and light calves are pretty sad around here.....
 
You did pretty good Randi. Either the Canadian market is recovering or the US market is a mess.

Last week's report in Idaho said:

The Canadian market really hasn't changed much. It might be up a couple cents. Really though our calf markets usually play off the value of the Canadian dollar vs the US dollar, and they should be about 20 cents higher than they are now, as our dollar is sitting around $.80 US. From what we are hearing, the US feedlots are not getting the financing they need, COOL is a problem, and things might change a bit once your election is over. We kept almost all of our heifer calves, if things turn around a bit, at least we might get something out of them.

Prices are down everywhere, I don't know if a producer can hold on much longer.

I am really glad I sold the majority of mine the beginning of Sept. as prices were 10-15 cents a pound higher for 650-750# weights. But I did have all the extra work and care to put up with by calving so early (in very extreme temps) so I guess it is all relative..



ILH my garden shed blew right over into the fence and is toast ( just love throwing money away :cry2: )... :( I am so p@ssed off at this wind WTF ???????????? :mad:

We had to cut up three huge trees this evening that had blown right over, roots and all ,right into our main fence to get in the driveway,,this is the same fence that keeps all of my winter/calving cows in..MAJOR fencing to do when the wind dies down,,
Like I haven't done enough of this already this year,,at least I don't have a crack head to blame for this one...
 
We sold, we did well considering the market, but incompared to prices even last year what a crap shoot. We were told our animals looked good, by some other producers, by the auction manager, but a few buyers got some calls and the bidding stopped on hieffers...before ours got into the ring. The buyers were busy chatting it up, a few left. One of the producers before us had some go so cheap he passed them. They were really picked apart. Frozen ears discounted any where from 20 to 50 cents below average price. Hiefers took a real beating with prices between 70 and 86 cents a pound. Steers were anywhere from 90 to 1.18.
We would have loved to keep the hiefers back, but we did not have the hay. Husband came home and we figured we lost between 10 and 15000 from last year.
I will post our average weights and prices later...don't feel like finding that sheet...to depressing

I sure hope so. I'm sitting on my calves too. I think I got the feed to carry them so I'm going to try and hold out as long as I can. Wonder what 1000 lb steers and heifrers will bring in January? :???:
