Where do you get your " tarps?" I would like to buy some Military grade or better tarps to cover some things including some hay. What do you do if you need a good long lasting tarp? Thanks in advance.

If you have a billboard company in your area the used signs are very heavy duty. i have not used any but some of my friends swear by them.

Have some that were 'shipping container' covers. Heavy vinyl(now sure of the mil rating), with a polyethylene mesh embedded, black on one side, white on the other. Have been in service for 5 years. Developing some wear and a few holes here and there, but I can probably use them for another couple of years. Think we paid about $70 each(plus shipping) for 60x24.
Couldn't find any more of those this year, so we bought one of the 20mil billboard tarps; seems to be of similar quality, but no seams, and does have ends/sides doubled over & sewn to allow for insertion of pipe, etc. for weighting/tying down. Quite a bit more expensive than the original ones we had, but I expect it to last for several years.

Because they're breathable but waterproof the hay came out looking and smelling exactly the same after as much as 2 years. They don;t stand up well to a brush hog running over a corner and sucking the tarp into the blades though

I have been using Missouri hay tarps for about 5 years. http://www.mohaytarps.com/
They use a hay pin system to hold the tarps down that works very well. I made gravel pads that the hay sets on so no water will collect under the tarp and also use a tarp under the hay. My round bales stay better under tarps than in a barn because there is less sun fading. I also don't have to pay property tax on tarps.
PS whatever you get for tarps get white ones, keeps they hay better.
