So i'm going out of town for the weekend and figured i'd try to stir things up a little before i left so nothing gets stuck to the bottom while i'm out. We've all seen those survey emails that get sent around to be filled out so i figured why not do a little cattle related spin-off type survey. what the hay?--

I was listening to an NPR show a few weeks back about this guy in Texas that had a Bramer bull that he'd bought that was real gentle. Named him Chance, and the guy used him to travel around and let people sit on him to get their pictures taken. Chance died and the guy had him cloned. Named the clone Second Chances, and so far the bull has put the guy in the hospital at least twice. He isn't willing to give up on the bull and still thinks that he can get Second Chances to have as good a disposition as his original.

I was cringing the whole time I was listening. I don't like the idea of cloning anything. It is playing God, and we do that enough already with the technology we have. This guy's gonna get himself killed.

I am sure that some of you may be familiar with the story. I just heard it for the first time a few weeks ago. [/i]

ralohfisherphotoanimals.com. I think that's the site. You can see Chance and Second Chance. It doesn't say anything about the owner nearly being killed twice, but I guess that would be bad for business. I don't think that sit anyone on the clone.

Fer real? I thought Dolly the Sheep was the only clone so far.
Even with a gentle critter like Chance, I wouldn't be posing for pictures on his back. And I sure wouldn't put a kid on there.

She was only the first. They've cloned some Red Angus, some cats that I',m aware of and I'm sure just about everything else by now.

Wow! Clearly, I haven't kept up.
Cloning creeps me out. I don't see much good coming from it. But, I could be wrong.
Cloning cats is unarguably wrong. When has there ever been a shortage of cats,? and if you are propagating the "best" cat genes isn't that fraud?

interesting stories, thanks.

My position continues to be that standing in front of progress only gets you run over. I don't support many curbs on cloning and biotech sorts of things. If we don't do it, Korea will. But at some kind of gut level, cloning still creeps me out. Did you ever see "The Simpson's" episode where space aliens clone Homer? We leverage our successes with these technologys, but we could also leverage our failures.
Fear of this stuff is just silly. But caution is indicated.

I have the same opinion of cloning as I do of exploring space. Gives scientists something to do to keep them off the streets at night
