Supplementing poor hay?

Would this be considered a protein supplement for poor quality hay?

At least the baler did not clog on this bale.
 
Looks like that hay is going to need something but I don't think adding a snake will help much. Is that broom sedge?

It has some over mature wheat in it, could not get a window of weather to cut it any earlier. Guess I got more straw than anything. Wheat was sowed with grass so most of it has some grass with it.
 
We have around 400 bales that are in the same boat. I know mature wheat hay may not have much protein, but they seem to really go through it when there's a little grain in it. Figure it will work just fine to give them a little fiber and slow motility for calves on green winter pasture.

Hopefully things will work out with crabgrass and soybean rolls.
 
The guy who owns the place I was baling on was riding around on his ATV, rode around that bale and the snake was still flopping around said he was close enough it about hit him.
