Get ready to hear a lot more about El Niño during the next several months — and maybe even longer — as the infamous climate cycle returns again, developing and intensifying in the Pacific Ocean near the equator. If it forms as expected, this El Niño will redraw global weather maps, sparking flooding for some and drought and wildfires for others — all while simultaneously speeding up the pace of global warming.

We need it bad. Im not talking... oh its dry. Im talking trees dieing... fights over water because lakes are almost dried up... dirt in pastures... etc.

Down south we had 1.5 last weekend, at the house we had about 1.0, but north at Lavaca... zero. I came out of the Waco are yesterday and it was a jungle. Green and water every where.

Only a hurricane or some kind of tropical storm can save us. We need some spring showers to make it until then though.

We had about an inch on Sunday. Then it rained a little more on Monday and Wednesday. Our normal average for the month of April is 0.8. It is suppose to rain some this coming week so we might be up tp1.25" for the month. Way ahead of normal. Things greened up nicely.

Early last week I thought we had a chance of getting some moisture, but thursday and friday rolled around and we got nothing. The mountains did get a little. All we got was some cold. This morning when I went out to change water I almost froze, there was ice everywhere I had water running.

Had some hopes for the forecast of some light rain... temps dropped 20 degrees from 55-60 to 44 last night... Sprinkle about 10, a little more forecast for early morning... Yep.... got a "little more"... total maybe .15 in the rain gauge and sun coming out at 11... it is gone... not much of anything for the next week... Chilly, frost and possible freeze warning for tonight and tomorrow nights... 60's days and then back into the 45 to 70 range...
Ground has cracks everywhere... trees look green but it just washed off the pollen....

I would be happy to see a "late spring snow storm" like that at this point...wouldn't last but a day or 2 and put some needed moisture in the ground... wouldn't stick around long enough to hurt much either... if we get the frost/freeze they say the next 2 nights it will hurt alot with the dry cold...

Grass is still green but short. If it would start raining before long there could still be a decent bottom.

Guess I should feel lucky. We got 1/4 inch Saturday from all the hit or miss showers.

I guess we've been living right. We've had a nice spring with ample rain. I could get a first cutting of hay right now. In 2024 I got a first of three cuttings on April 22. Y'all need to start paying the preacher more.

I do not want to jinx myself but we may have turned the corner. We went from severe drought to very dry in about 6 weeks! We have had about 8-9 inches since early March and has been spaced out and all sinking in and no run off.

The only bad thing is this darn wind. Seems every day is 15-40 MPH. I can not ever remember this kind of daily wind like we have had for the last six months! I sure hope that things change for the better and you all get some much needed moisture.
