My company has sent me down to Gainesville, in our Sunshine State to do a year-end punch on (let's just say, a large hardware chain store).

Having arrived at the hotel at about 6:00 pm local time, I decided to find this store and proceeded to follow the desk clerks directions. 30 minutes later,(while wondering why the company didn't find a hotel closer), I finally find it. 2 blocks off the Gators campus. That answered my question regardin the hotel at least.

Did I say sunny? What I meant was bloomin hooottttt!!!!
Heat index was 105 degrees. (insert sweatin emotion here)

Gas here is no jokin matter either. The place I decided to stop, about 40 miles north of my destination, (some kind of tourist trap), gas was 319.9 for regular.

I had just paid 280.9 that mornin in Miss. Can you say gougin the public?

Anyway, WE ARE NOT AMUSED!! :P

You must have some nice scenery to look at there by the campus, though. It doesn't hurt to look. Just don't touch, Paint.

Or is it all old folks?

Gas was 2.95 yeaterday. I paid 2.68 at a Buccees when I was on vaca. That aint' cheap either, but it beats the heck outa 3.19.

You got that right. I have always said if I didn't already live here I couldn't afford to.

Heat index yesterday at 5:30PM was 105. Humidity was only 93%. Now imagine this, 95 degrees in the sun, running a open station tractor and a manual tie baler. Yep, that's what I have to look forward to.

Paint, all of our gas stations are tourist traps.

Cannot comment on any scenery that may or may not be on campus.

Let us not forget my wife checks in on this site fairly often.

That's pretty cheap comparatively. We pay about $1.10 Canadian per liter which after all the conversions works out to about $3.95 U.S. per US Gallon and our dollar is pretty good right now and the worst part is we produce the stuff. There are oil wells less than two hours from here. I'm headed to Niagara falls next month and I plan on going through the States mostly because we save so much on gas going that way.

Paint - sorry you had to be exposed to the armpit of the state. I'd request an immediate transfer so you could work next to a real university, say in Tallahassee. :D (For those of you not from Florida, there's a small rivalry between UF in Gainesville and FSU in Tallahassee - sort of like the Hatfields and McCoys except we're serious about it.)

Anyway, I hate to disillusion you but it's not hot yet. It really doesn't warm up until August - nothing like walking outside and feeling like someone threw a steaming hot wet towel in your face. That doesn't bother me but I am severely allergic to cold. Don't know how you folks survive in the great white north.

Paint, I saw your call on the caller ID , sorry I was out at the time, but I did get your message.Hope you are really having as much fun at that "We Dare to Bare" Strip Joint in Micanopy as you stated.Wish I were there!! I'll let your other half know you'll call her Sunday sometime. P.S. Does she know Jacuzzi Jane?

Your Friend,
Uncle Crowder

You know what they say, "With friends like you......"  :P

They've got real good burgers, so my brother says.

By the way, we're 6th generation crackers and got the deeds from 1831, a few years before the war, where we lost 4 great great great great uncles and grampa.
