Anyone going to the Sullivan's Genetic Progress sale on saturday in Hillsboro?

Rumor is that will be the last one he has in Texas.

Thats interesting. Do you know why?

I went. They ended up having it down the road in West (due to the mess from all the rains). It was the first non-Texas Longhorn sale I'd ever been to. I loved it. He had some pretty nice animals, pretty solid prices. Bet the new location, rains and being at a sale barn didnt help the prices though. I expected there to be at least one "home run" animal, price wise ($15,000+) but the closest was i think 2 animals went for $12,000.

Prices were too low for them.

I was there too, bought a Meyer son and a Mossy Oak daughter. You didn't happen to ask the person in from of you what TH was did you?

The prices were off quite a bit from previous sales from what I hear. I really expected the Shorthorn bull King James to sell for a lot more. They spent more than $5,000 just on marketing for him.

I was expecting some higher prices.

If you don't mind me asking, which Mossy Oak daughter did you get? I really liked them both. THat wasnt me who asked you about TH. I was sitting about 3 rows below the BBQ they were serving, with my girlfriend, I had a camo cap on.

I did expect the King James bull to go for more, I had guessed at 8K to 10K before I saw that he was a TH carrier. I liked him. I wonder how much being a TH carrier affected him.?

I assume it was the cheaper of the two, I didn't check the females that close. We bought lots 87 and 15b. It was sort of an impulse buy on the heifer, I didn't expect the females to be cheap enough to raise my hand on. The bull was a second choice after the better Heat Wave son went over $4k to our neighbor and the other Heat Wave son was nuts.

I think you would have been right on the $10k or so if he had been TH clean. It's just too big a deal now to ignore. Between the full page ads and display for him in Denver, I'm scared to think how much they lost on him.

Is Sullivans a Texas operation or did they haul the cattle in from somewhere else?

It's good to hear the TH animals were discounted. The only way to get it out of the breed is for breeders to stop using animals known to be TH positive. I think sooner or later they'll stop registering animals carrying TH. I have a friend who's breeding some of his Angus cows to club calf sires. He's not using anything known to be TH positive or anything with an "unknown" TH status.

That was a real nice heifer. My buddy almost bid on her, but he wanted a Meyer daughter.... he ended up passing on a Meyer daughter that went pretty cheap, and wound up getting a Meyer granddaughter instead.
