We have been having 33 degree days here. They have threatened thunder showers but nothing has come out of it. Grass was starting to burn off and it was a little odd that on a year with flooding we were worried about drought hitting next. BUT the guys came to do the fields (we hire out) and I thought, "At least we will have good hay for the winter!". They cut half of a field, have some machinery problems but come back yesterday and baled what they had cut and start cutting more. It was cooler than normal yesterday - only 29 and they were calling for 30% probablity of showers but when they call for 60% it doesn't rain so of course we all thought it was a safe day for cutting. Got the rest of one field done and started on another then the storm hit. Puddles everywhere. Hay laying in water. Why is it that as soon as we start cutting it starts raining? :x
I keep telling myself at least it was good for the grass but that is not helping much. If it had only waited a few days....
The wonderful world of ranching.

I was wondering how in the world you can grow hay in 29-33 degree weather until it occurred to me where you were and that you are measuring in Celcius.

Anyway, I'm thrilled with our weather at the moment. We've been in severe drought and I've even priced all my cattle for sale. (I priced them a little high 'cause I was sort of hoping not to get any takers.) Well, for the past 48 hours or so we've had a low pressure area parked above us and I'm getting plenty of rain. The grass has been clipped really close but I can already see it responding. Just might make it after all.

rain I hate the stuff, it has not stopped now for about a month and have had, 6 months worth in that time, many places are flooded and if it does not stop soon even London may get flooded, and where I live, never been known....this is the worst flooding since 1947 they are saying, wouldn't know about that I was not even a twinkle in my Dad eye then. call this summer it is colder than winter on occasions.

Be careful what you ask for. You may get it.

Here, we are in a 100 year drought, meaning it's the worst drought in 100 years.

Finally started to get a bit of rain around the 1st of July so I had the costal field fertlized on July 10th. Since then, we have had about 3" of rain. You can hear the grass squeaking cause it beginning to grow.

I saw this on the evening news, Chrisy. You all stay safe over there and take no chances.

It was in the low 80sf here-in Texas- in July!-Late July-
Does this qualify as a "cold day in He11"?

We need rain soooooooooooo bad it is sooooooooo dry here, things are burning up. It was such a promising hay here too, now I have to wonder if the pastures will be here in another few weeks. I know this way too early to start feeding hay.

That's the way we were last year in S. Texas. Started raining in Feb. and hasn't stopped. Got 60 bales wrapped up and everything that was cut is ready again but can't and I've got a 35 ac. coastal patch that's half waist high and layin over that I can't cut. Not enough hay last year because of the drought and not enough this year because it's too wet. Don't ya just love it.

Yes that would be very hard to take, knowing you got the hay, and just can't get it baled. Good luck.

Wish I could say misery loves company but really I wish that everyone on here would have a better tirme with weather than me. Yesterday was a good cutting day, until they broke down. It's supposed to be hot and sunny for a few days though so hopefully it will get done. I know the rain was needed for the grass though, I can look at this a little more rationally now than when I made the post.
