Stupid Question RE:Chickens

Is there a potential health problem with chickens in the pasture/paddock?
Have a five month old bull calf not feeling well for past two days, still eating etc. but "off" his game. Temped him yesterday and has a temp so gave him LA200. Only change around here is daughters chickens have found their way into the paddock.
 
i doubt very seriously that chickens made the bull calf sick.weve had chickens off an on for almost 37yrs.an havent had cows get sick being round them.
 
If it is eating a lot of commercial chickenfood that would be a concern, but just chickens runnign in the barnyard isn;t.

That may be the understatement of the year.

I think to be on the safe side get those chickens back where they belong and just keep treating him until his fever comes down. You might even want to take a fecal sample in ,as he may have gotten into something that he shouldn't have.

Thanks HD. His temp was down yesterday and hopefully he is shaking off whatever has him feeling poorly. Leaving town this weekend so there had to be one of them that wasn't going to let me out of here without worry. Will temp him again this morning. Vets are coming on Monday for testing to get health papers to go to the shows this fall. Will have them check him out while they are here.
 
I've never seen a problem with it and have had them together for several years. The chickens love to follow the cows around for a hot meal.

Why should you be so special as to have a worry free weekend..you know they do that on purpose. :lol2:
Sounds like a good plan ,I'm sure your vet will be way more help than we are ,have a great weekend and I hope your fella is feeling better.

Thanks HD. Temp was 102 this morning. Was 102.6 yesterday so he is going in the right direction. The LA200 must have done its job, was 104 on Wednesday! He never stopped eating or drinking and no runs so I think he is shaking it off. Heading for Green Lake Wisconsin in the morning....
 
Kathy and I were just talking about the Chickens following the Cows around for a Hot meal. Tom :cboy:
