I have a wheat field I planted clover in last fall for some stubble clover hay. I was planning to try to get two cuttings off of it this year but I keep hearing bad things about the second cut. Things such as making cattle sick, they won't eat it, etc etc....Do any of you have any experience with second cutting red clover hay???? It'll have some grass mixed in but I don't want to waste time and fuel baling it if they won't eat it....

personally if you can get a second cutting of clover hay.id cut an bale it.i see no reason why the cows wont it.

We frost seed in clover fields each winter. We bale it as many times as long as its growing with no problems. The cows love it and do good on it. After about two cuttings of clover, it usually thins out and fall panicum or foxtail takes its place which we also cut and bale. I see no reason why there would be a problem with you baling clover more than once.
