Stinky Hay!!

Not sure if this topic has been discussed before, but I started feeding hay out of a different hay barn today and apparently there has been some skunk activity there! When I first started pulling out bales, that unmistakable skunk odor hit me pretty hard... as I was pulling twine off of the bales, that odor seem to be embedded into the hay. I put out around 20 bales and will go check on them later today. Anyone know if that smell will deter the cows from eating it?

I have plenty of experience with skunks living here in TN, but have never had stinky hay!

I can't speak for the cows but this fat boy wouldnt eat any food smelling like that.

YAY! Now we all learned something new today. Heck, they might even like it better that way.

When it comes to hay cows will eat some real trash, if they like it. I put some 3 year old rotten hay in a wash out and the cows ate it to the dirt. I called the county extension agent and he said don't worry about it as long as you have good feed available to them. He said don't try and make a cow eat something it doesn't want to, that is where troubles begin.

First cutting Fescue/Orchard/Timothy/Clover... some really quality stuff. These rolls came off some of our best bottom land.
