No TV hasn't allowed me to keep up much this year. He sure hasn't had much for results this year and even last year. He's a heck of a driver though, I believe you could have thrown him in near any series and in short order he'd be competing.

In his mind he probably is getting out at a good time the way Nascar is going down hill. At least going out now there will be a few fans left to see his Good-bye final year. Gordon and Little E are not far behind either if they don't beat him to the door.

I have only watched one full race (Daytona ) this year and last 25 laps last week. I will probably watch a little of the chase now but they started losing me when Mark Martin retired.

I’m surprised he stayed this long. Based on his comments over the years, he never really liked the series. He was simply there because it paid better than Indy. No one can blame him for that. He seems to me to be the type to have other racing interests that he’d like to pursue that he can’t while still racing Cup.

Gordon announced last year that this was his final year. I think Earnhardt has another 4-5 years.
But one things for sure, NASCAR had better do something as far as building interest in the younger drivers. There used to be a time when we anticipated a young drivers move to Cup, and everyone knew who was driving for the Rookie of the Year title. Those years are long gone. I doubt they ever get back to the status they had in the late 90s, but they need to stop the decline. They need to start with the tracks. Bristol used to be two of the most anticipated races of the year, now I can't stand to even watch them there.

I think he's just saying he understands it's coming sooner rather than later, and has thought about how to handle it. Not that he's planning to retire soon.

The guy is worth bout 300 mil, unless he needs the fame in his mind, the desire want be there long.

Doesn't seem like Tony's heart has really been in it since he got hurt a couple three years ago. Then the accident that killed the young driver really pulled him down. He's fixed for life so can enjoy the other aspects of the sport besides driving. One he// of a driver and competitor though.

He might wise up and decide it is not worth it anymore and I think the article I posted above stated that. He doesn't want to go out like his dad.
