I have a 1980"s Kubota tractor that was in a fire and the material on the steering wheel melted into crystallized stalactites dripping down from the iron. When I clean off all the plastic to get down to the iron rim I'd like to build it back up and cover it with something smooth. Any ideas?

long strand fiberglass bondo... it's going to be a bit fun to get on there, but it should be pretty durable.. .it'll take several coats, and you'll probably want to finish it with a short strand bondo, but it's about the most affordable idea I can think of... unless you can find a used one somewhere
