Steer Vs Bull When to Cut?

Wondering if you have a calf that you are debating about keeping a bull or cutting for a show steer, what is the window of opportunity to make this decision. I have noticed lots on here saying they band there calves at birth. Wondering when is to late to cut or band to make a show steer, with out having that bully look?

in australia i think that by law they are supposed to be done before 6 months or a vet has to do them,have seen a 11 month old get cut and he died ,not of blood loss but of shock.

We cut our steers at 6-7 months or when we wean them.
