Stealing baby from momma?

Help Support CattleToday:

I used to tag and band my calves as soon as I found them. Alot of times this was at night after I had got
home from work. Twice I had calves take off running as soon as I turned them loose, they ran right past their
mothers and slam off my place. Luckily both times it was during daylight and i was able to follow them on the truck
and keep sight of them. One fell in a ditch and got tangled in some vines. The other ran up between 2 rows of
hay bales in the neighbors hay field and got trapped. After the second time I stopped because if this would have
happened at night, chances are I would never see the calf again. This year all of my calves were born within
40 days so when the youngest was about 90 days old I caught and worked the whole bunch. Took me and my
uncle about 3 hours. Turns out that this is what is easiest for me, but the more cows you have the harder it is
to match cows and calves up to tag them right.
