I am enjoying the state quarter program and for the most part I really like the various state's designs. However some of them are too busy, dumb or ugly in my opinion. Everybody's taste is not the same but it seems like some states must have had knuckleheads picking their designs.

For the record here's the worst followed by a few close runner ups.

Worst - Alabama

Honorable Mentions - South Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee.

It looks like Oklahoma and New Mexico may be soon to join my list.

Just my opinion,
What's yours?

I think Maryland is kind of lame, I especiallly like WI, Kansas and North Dakota, I collect them too, along with Buffalo nickels, and any other coin that interests me. A fun hobby.

I just pulled a Maryland quarter out of my pocket. It says "The Old Line State". I guess a gal visiting Maryland can expect to hear "What's your sign?" and "What's a nice girl like you..?"

There are a lot of people here really POed about that quarter design. I think it sucks and says very little about Oklahoma. what a waste of a perfect oppertunity to promote the state.

Being from Texas, I was really anticipating a great design, but it was kind of a let down too.

The outline fo the state with a star and "The Lone Star State" good grief surely we could have put a cow and an the alamo on there or something.

Go to EBAY, they have em all!

Our governor said the Louisiana coin had to have the pelican on it or he would not approve it. Some states try to squeeze too much into the design. Looks like 4 coins have horses, 2 have cows,2 with buffalos, and 1 buffalo skull. The Oklahoma with the scissor-tail looks like it will be pretty and also Alaska with the bear.

Chrisy - Sorry, I didn't think about everyone not being familiar with what's going on with the quarters here in the U.S. Here's a web site that will show the designs on the quarters "back sides".

Cuz those are the ones I have got up until 2006, will have to write to my cousin to get me the rest of the set. thanks for the link....Chris.

As a native of the Heart Of Dixie, I submit that our quarter is absolutely stupid! Helen Keller sitting in a chair "staring" off into oblivion is not a true representation of this state. We have Vulcan, the second largest statue in the US in Alabama. The USS Alabama WWll battleship resides in Mobile Bay. We have the most navigable waterways of any state in the Union. Our State has a glorious history and all they put our our quarter is Helen Keller? As I understand it, she was a socialist! I move that we melt them all down and restrike them in an image more befitting the State of Alabama!!!!!!! Any seconds to the motion, fellow Alabamians???

One question. Who is Helen Keller?

I'm surprised they didn't put George Washington Carver on it.

Yea, whatever you say, suits me fine.................. ;-)

How about putting that on the quarter?

I don't think there are any quarters with 'boats' or 'ships' on them. Why not a battleship?

I agree with you JT. Helen Keller was a real special woman, but she shouldn't represent the whole state of Alabama.
