I live in the FL Panhandle and was curious to know how many pounds/acre of ryegrass others spread. Someone told me to spread 90 lb/acre, but that sounds a bit high to me...

The 90 lbs rate would be for the grain rye. Ryegrass would be in the 25 lb range. Rye and Ryegrass are two different plants.

You're right, that is too much. 25-35 lbs is all you need.

That's what I was told some time ago and have spread it that way for the last few years with excellent results.

I am getting ready to broadcast some rye grass onto a pasture I recently rotated the cows off of. Should I broadcast first, then bushhog the remaing grass (bahia) low to cover the seed, or bushhog first then spread?

I am also in Louisiana and I like to spread the seed first. I do this mainly because
I can see my tracks better, and by bush-hogging afterwards I like to think I am
putting my ryegrass down where I get better soil contact. Also, I like the idea of
laying the clipped grass over the seed to help retain some moisture, especially
in a dry year like this.
