Does anyone know where I can get instructions on splicing rope halters? In years past you could get a booklet from the Agricultural extention office but they don't have them any more. I found several horse halters(knot type) but none for cattle.

Thanks Dun, that's what I'm looking for. I want to teach the kids to splice a halter. We had to splice one in FFA before we could get our green hand degree. They don't require anything much anymore. Thanks again.
 
I would think that the scouts would teach ropecraft types of stuff. Or maybe the scouts aren;t in existence any more other then the cookie mongers

Unfortunately most men with any brains won't lead a scout troop anymore for fear of being accused of molestation. Most of the scout dens in our area are now led by women. The homos and pedifiles have ruined it for kids. I don't blame a man for saying no to leading a den. You wouldn't have to be guilty, just accused. You'd be ruined for life.

As a scout master myself I am very careful to the situtations I put myself into. I won't transport a scout or be alone with any scout. There are so may things now that you have to be careful. The guideline for scouts now are more into arts and crafts. We get out and hike and camp ( with parents present ) on several occasions. We once went to a scouting event and they were allowed to shoot BB guns. Heck my scouts have been shooting 30-06's for years deer hunting. Course we don't shoot rifles at a scout meeting. The BSA folks wanted to know why we don't attend many events. I told him that the things they do don't come close to what these boys do everday. All of my boys are farmboys. The events have a lot of city boys. Most of those boys ain't been in the woods let alone spent the night. A campout for the cityboys is large wall tents set up in a park. A campout for our boys is backpack tents at least 5 miles from any truck. Its a mile of differanes between city boys and countryboys.
