These are from the first week in December, we were -20F with windchill. Usually they have to get by just eating grass, even with a few inches of snow on the ground. When it gets bitter cold we give them a little boost of calories.

What kinda unroller is that?

It was about 15F when I fed this evening and I swear one roll was frozen solid, I ended up pulling most of it apart by hand. The more I drove the less came off. And yes, I was going the right direction.

Gotta love those baldies.
 
LOL, a lot of that going around....we have had a few bales like that recently. Sure makes my wife cuss while she is out feeding and I'm at work. That unroller is an old Besler. It is actually made for a pickup box, and doesnt go all the way down flush with the bed, sits up high. It has a "teardrop" hole where you just hook it over your gooseneck ball and plug the wires in. I have it bolted onto the flatbed, but it takes up the bed so i pull it off in the summer. Cant afford those new ones, got this one for $1000 and it works great, all self contained hydraulics. Was made in the late 70's. Gotta be frugal in the cow biz!
 
You're talking to the right idgit about being frugal. I bought an old clunker with a DewEze on it a couple years ago for 2500 bucks. I went over the bed front to back, painted it up like new and parted out the junk truck under it, then slapped it on one of my old trucks (older than the truck I parted out). Wound up with around 1500 in the bed, and the previous owner thought it was a new bed the first time he saw it.

nice cattle......that said I'd rather have a bunch of pumpjack's like in the first pic on my property! then maybe I can afford to raise cattle :D
