Yep-- Normie certainly goes back to the old Rito 707 a whole bunch of times....And 707 definitely is one bull that has stood the test of time with linebreeding...
Thats what I've been trying to do- is put some more Rito 707 and Juanada breeding into my herd...Looking at keeping a Rito Legacy 726T (traces back 16 times to 707-3 times to Shoshone Viking) son out of a little Cole Creek Goldmere 31N daughter- and an OCC Magnitude son out of a Cole Creek Juanada Lad 81T daughter as potential herd sire prospects to join the old Bannon of Wye 730T bull...
When I am done with Normie, you can have him OT :) , I will try to get a picture of him today. he is down with the heifers at another pasture. He is not as expressively muscled as 916S, but has a great pattern and a great disposition. The bull calf in the pair in the second picture is a Normie son. I am probably going to keep him if he keeps doing what he is doing so far. The Norm calves have all been 70 lbs or less out of heifers and very lively at birth. You don't want to put off tagging them, that is for sure. The fact that he is really linebred was a big factor in me selecting him, as I wanted to really stamp the offspring and get those traits that I am most interested in. Calving ease, udders, dispositions and being easy keepers, so to limit my winter feed bill and sell those grass-fed steers.
Thanks Harley, that means a lot coming from you. The 916S heifers, look pretty much the same, she is pretty typical, earlier this summer, I posted a picture of the next group of 20 coming on. They are getting bred to Norm this summer.
I bought a new bull from Ohldes to complement where I am going right now, or at least I have half interest and half possession. He is a long yearling that is a Eureka x the 852L Just Right cow. No registration # yet, but you can look up their pedigrees and extrapolate, I guess. I will try to get a picture of him on here as well.
As far as the white goes... Angus have had white since the breed originated. His white, as you can see, does not come close to the front of the navel which would make him unregisterable. I guess that I will take some white for what I have been getting in exchange. :)
