Never built a cannon before. But I did build a tater gun, it would shoot a tater 200+ yds. using hair spray as a propellant.

Hook,
We need to get together. That shyt is fun. I built a cannon out of an aircraft landing gear strut tube. Those one liter walmart soda pop bottles fit in it perfect. We and all our friends save them up all year. We fill them with water for Independance Day. My cannon takes a half full 35mm film canister of black powder to launch a 2 pound bottle of water a quarter mile. We have a ball setting up a target and seeing who can get the closest. Sounds like ya'll are having a real good time

We used tin foil for wadding, a 36 oz plastic cup for the the cup, and a large orange for the shot. Now I want to building myself. Haha.
The dog is having a blast with all the kids here.

A friend of mine built a cannon that shot tennis balls. He used black powder and shot those things out of sight. I've often wondered what people thought when wandering around the hills in the desert when they would find a singed tennis ball.
I ways referred to him as Crazy Charlie. But he was sure a blast (no pun intended) to run around with.

A friend of mine had a cannon built that shot golf balls. He and a few more guys around had a machinist build the cannons and they had a running bet on who could kill a deer first. David had his aimed at his corn feeder but to my knowledge he never got his deer. It infuriated his wife every time he fired it. David died a few years ago and I've let it be known I'd be interested in purchasing the thing she hates so much.

A "CRAZY" neighbor has a homemade mortar that shoots soda cans full of concrete. They tumble through the air making a really weird sound. No offense to you guys, but this guy is a fool. I sometimes wonder what all he is actually capable of doing.

Can't remember if they were mortars or cannons or both, but a group of ML's from Washington, and a bunch from Canada used to have a match every year at a rendezvous using oranges and tangerines. They'd all go to the grocery stores with a piece of cardboard, with a proper sized hole in it, to select the correct size for their weapon. The Canadian bunch used to have an annual match with the Canadian Navy, until the Navy boys started freezing the ammo and blowing up the plywood back stops!

If you like cannons you need to attend a CW re-enactment. The one they have here is neat. One day all day long it's nothing but cannon competition.

My nephew does the re-enactment stuff and they go all out. He tends to stay more with the revolutionary era cause he says the civil war guys get too carried away.

I made a cannon with pvc pipe using air pressure. At just 60psi it will shoot a golf ball out of sight.
I can shoot it from my house and put golf balls in a tank which is 400yds.
My son tried a direct hit on the side of the barn at 50yds.
Didn't damage the golf ball but I had to replace 2 boards on the barn.

Cal

They build cannons powered by air pressure to chunk punkins around here at fall festivals etc. It is amazing how far they can shoot a punkin the size of a basketball.

My cousin and I managed to severely injure a crow with a wooden dowel shot out of a piece of clay with a hole down the middle and a firecracker shoved in one end. I'm sure it wasn't as far away or as mortal of a wound as it seems like in my memory but I KNOW we hit him.
