Sold Round bales today

I had 58 5 x 5 net round bales of net wrapped grass hay cut in May (early for southern Indiana) that I sold today for $40.00. I thought it might help someone out to know what hay was going for. It went to a hay jockey who was reluctant to let me know where he was moving it to. If I didn't need to get it off the man's farm I would have felt better to have spread it back on the field. Maybe he is actually going to help someone out---and maybe not.

20 rolls of decent hay cost $1400. today. But my old bull sold for 1.06 a pound, so go figure.

Last month paid 85.00 for irrigated 30 bales(5x5) out of the field we hauled and 110.00 each for 30 of the small rounds delivered out of Louisiana

Very much so, I'am going to Fl to pick some hay up next week. Averaged less than 1" of rain for the last 15 months around here. Hay is high close buy if you want good stuff, and I've learned poor hay is no good even thou the cows will eat it and its cheap. :2cents: I was in La. this summer and they were bailing everything even the sides of the road.

It's still worth over 125 a big roll here in Texas.......my buddy in La says they are still hauling hay to Texas.

Looks to be moving a little slower here....stacking up on trailers for days now...Haven't talked to anyone about what the price is doing (did see an ad asking $85 for a 4x5) but I haven't fed a roll in 3 weeks....don't need it because I have winter grasses growing like wildfire....Amazing what rain and warm weather can do.

So a warning to you hay brokers.....watch out.... ;-)

in the next 6wks or so the hay sales will completely dry up.the hay sales are slowing down now.i know we can get hay for $60 a bale if we need it.

We just bought 3 semi-loads of alfalfa/brome hay 3x3x8 @ ~1,000 lbs each for $250 a ton delivered from Saskachewan (sp?) Canada. First load due this afternoon here. ...we will protein test each load after arriving... ;-) but expect it to be in the 12-14% range.

THIS hay is less expensive delivered than some we bought this Fall from Oklahoma that was Brome which we tested at 6% protein!!! The Okla hay price was seriously inflated due to the truckers gouging us on hauling charges. But, at that time we needed some hay.

This year, hopefully our previous "local" supplier of quality hay will have a good crop... Then, we'll fill 3 barns plus some stacked outside.

How many rolls are you needing? Might be able to help you out.
