Always gather up about 40 scrub calves over the winter to feed. Most years we sell them in May for grass. Kept them on grass this year. Most of them weighed 325 lbs at the end of January. They weighed 636 yesterday after a five hour haul and an overnight stay at the yards. Topped the sale in weight ranges. 3, 715 lb steers brought $201.50 and 19, 688 lb heifers brought $188.00 There was a little frozen eared heifer that never did much but eat that weighed 415 and sold for $87.50. Got the use of her, can't win them all. Still have 4 escapees our on range with the cows.

The man who was my header back when I was roping was a brand inspecter. That job put him at the sale every week. He would buy junkers cheap. Take them home and kick them out. Of course they aren't all winners but he did very well doing that.
