This one was born 1/21/05; had my folks take her to the dairy auction on Wednesday and sell her for me. Due 11/14 but I don't think she'd have made it to then.

She was 1385lbs, bred as a yearling. Been on pasture since April.

Just wanted to post something so y'all didn't forget about me. :P

Every post you make gets read. You are not forgotten. Saw this post and immediately went to it. Hope you fetch a lot of nickels for her. She's going to calve within a week for sure.

when your seling holstein heifers.sometimes its best to sale them as springers.that way you dont have to deal with calving them out as well as milking them till the next sale.

College money. :P

Yep, she sold last Wednesday and brought a good price. Didn't top the sale but she did well. Mom took her to the sale for me (she's the best!) and watched her sell. Said mine was one of the biggest through at 1385lbs -- the majority were around 1000-1200lbs, which is small for a Holstein.

I'm not in a position to keep anything but open/bred heifers and a single nurse cow. Didn't want my folks to have to deal with calving out a heifer either -- they aren't cow people. I was sure curious what she was carrying (ultrasound showed a heifer, but I know how reliable those are!) but I didn't want to know that bad. LOL.

O.k.,

I'm going back here (graduated LSU in '92), but college money was for anything - including drinking which was a college pastime at LSU. However, being late in the fall, I would think MM is getting ready (saving up) for spring semester. Or at least I'll vouch for ya ;-)

Yiyiyi... surely y'all know me better than that! I don't drink, don't smoke, (don't ever intend to, either!) all in all I'm a good girl. I overheard boss tell my vet once he's never heard a swear word or anything close out of my mouth. And it's true; I try never to even think a word I shouldn't say, for fear one day it'd slip out when I didn't want it to. The money from that heifer goes to my college bill.
