We kept our young open cows home last fall and had them on free choice chopped hay, 8 lbs of pea screenings pellets and 8 lbs of barley. They would have gained about 300 lbs since early November and sold yesterday.

Looks like they did pretty good for you. That's an average of about 75lbs month gain...4 months =300 lbs? so over 2 lbs per day?
That was a decent price for the longhorn there in your area... she probably would not have done any better here...

They were probably closer to 3 lbs as it is very easy for a cow to shrink 150 lbs from here to the ring.
