sold a couple

I sold 2 beef calves yesterday. I was extremely happy with what they weighed. Both were off of 1st calf heifers, both born in February. I weaned them early and they have been on just grass for the past two months. First time I ever weaned a calf, and didn't feed it something. Weighed 565. One was white one was black. White 1.19 black 1.35. There is very little to be made on $700 calves.

Sold 4 corriente heifer that brought .69........Nothing to be made on those, but man we had fun.

Value added 600-700 calves in the sale we use most often sold at 136.00-141.00 per hundred weight this week.

What did the top end calves bring at your sale Sky?

I agree there's not much money to be made on $700 calves. We sold 724# Holsteins Wednesday, $92, 728# Angus x Holsteins $120. Over $200 more on xbreds, thankfully we only have 6 more home raised holstein steers on feed. Rest are all xbreds, I'm getting $50 for a day old bull calf picked up here at the dairy.

If cattle are selling that cheap in your area I would be figuring out how to put together a load, getting them ready to travel, and shipping them to a better market.

Shoulda used implants

I knew I was missing something... Next time with the implants do you reckon I will get $2.04 per lb

Double up at minimum , stack different drugs/implants like pro bodybuilders do . A guy I know mixes creatine monohydrate with a little grain he swears it adds 80 pounds in 10 days. He is a professional trader.

How do you get that it's the hottest barn in the state? There is from 1 to 3 potloads come from there to here about every month. It isn't because they are too high. Usually really good calves also. The graded sale helps keep them good if your getting them without seeing them first.

You will get more pounds. You need fatter cows if you want more per pound. Show us pics of the condition of what you sold. If they are skinny you get a skinny price.
