Solar-powered well pumps

I found a site selling these and just planning for the future, I wondered if any of you use these solar pumps or if you know of any problems other than needing good sunlight (planning on retiring to NM, so we'll have lots of sun) associated with them.

A good site critical with solar . Try to stay out of hollors and 200 -300 ft min from any bush or willers. chek for obstacles in the distance that may block the sun Also keep in mind thata 1 inch hose loses 10% per 100ft. better to goto a bigger hose size to reduce problems with losses 2 inch is ideal , but 1 1/2 would also reduce those loses to a min .

windmills also a good option..and much more to look at as well as less movin parts and i dont know of any 100 yr old solar pumps...my windmill is about 70 yrs old

Thanks for all the input, the reason I liked the idea of solar was not having to run power lines and the low maintenace aspect. I think I overlooked the windmill option because we didn't have any around where I grew up.

I have one that I bought this spring. Had a few bugs to work out, but works really well now. Watch out for cloudy days. Battery back up or full water wagon needed.
