Took a little drive over the Snowy Range in the Medicine Bow Mountains and found some snow. The pass is at 10,859ft and it was 57 degrees at about noon today. Stopped in Centennial for lunch, and then drove to Casper and met up with my aunt and uncle for supper. Then back home a little over 500 miles round trip. It was a nice to get away from the Riverton heat. 20220704_115125.jpg

I love that as well, you said getting away from the heat, what kind of heat are you getting?

A few years back I stopped at the top of Bighorn Pass (9,666 feet) about this time of year. There was 3 rigs pulling camp trailers parked there. They all had Florida plates. It looked like grandpa, grandma, their two kids, and half a dozen grandkids. All playing on a snow bank. The grandpa looking fella told me it was the first time his wife had ever seen snow. Looking around he said this place is probably all covered with snow in the winter. I replied this is Wyoming. The entire state is covered with snow at times in the winter.

The last couple winters we didn't have much snow around here; I was making dust feeding cows in December, but that usually doesn't happen to often. About 6 years ago we had almost 4' of snow for the winter; that was a lot for our area.

I have been seeing something advertised that you put ice cubes in and it blows across the ice cooling the air.
I have seen that one as well. That is kind of how a swamp cooler works. You pull are through a pad, and that is what cools the air. Crack open a window on the other side of the house and it will push that air through the whole house.

I grew up with not even a fan, just a open window. Sometimes not even a screen on it. We have gotten tender.
Now if the temp in my house varies 2 degree we notice it and think something is wrong.

I grew up in Northwest Colorado and we never did have any sort of cooling. Craig never did get near as hot as it does here in Riverton. Yes we are getting soft; we never used to have A/C in our cars. It was windows down, wing windows turned out and 60 miles per hour down the road.

A/C is common in WY. Our house has hot water heat so we don't have central air, however.
We have a mini-split mounted on the wall in the living room. It works great. Doesn't take long to cool the rooms down.

The boiler is under our bedroom and that room gets warmer than I would like. I was considering one of the cube swamp coolers, but I'm not sure it would do much good.
