snakes as houseguests--HELP!

Where are the snakes getting in? I'd probably get some kind of steel flashing or concrete and seal that up first before I would worry about getting the existing snakes out. I had a cousin who had a snake once. She found it cuddled up to her in her bed. I guess they seek out the warmth. I guess if that happened, you could at least catch them. Good Luck.
 
The first step to getting rid of them is to find out how they are getting in! What kind of snakes are they? Are they poisonous? You can't get rid of them untill you know how they get in so start looking.

Haven't seen one inside yet. We catch mice, however, so I know there are convenient little entryways! Have seen snakes in the flower bed and most recently a copperhead sun bathing on the rocks concreted to the footing. Little devil was so quick he got away! Maybe it's time for granny's moth balls! (not just for moths anymore!) Wouldn't mind a cat, but our eyballs can't take the them inside and the coyotes and raptors are too many to try and keep them around outside. Maybe a bobcat! anyone have bobkittens?
 
Get 3 or 4 adult Dachshund dogs. While they were originally bred to go after Badgers down Badger holes, I have had personal experience number of years ago with a customer who had 6 Dachshunds and they would corner and kill Copperheads.

Otherwise, seal off all possible entryways. Thoroughly check out the inside of the premises. Call exterminator (or bring Dachshunds into the house or building).
 
If you know where the snake is hiding-superglue a trotline hook to a frog. Most snakes can't resist a frog. Hook him and take him outside where you can chop his head off and retrieve your frog. Repeat as necessary.

One of those "seemed like a good idea at the time", don't try shooting it with snake shot in a 22 if it's in the house.

I don't like animals in the house period, but I'll take cats over snakes any time! Dogs work much better for snakes. I used to have some bulldog-boxer mixes that were excellent snake killers. Their whole body would vibrate as they snatched and shook the snake like greased lightening. :)
 
I am an exterminator by trade, but I DO NOT do snakes. They make some stuff called "Snake Away" which I understand is pretty effective. You can probably find it at a chemical store.[/u][/b]
 
I have to agree with ollie on this one. I would rather have the snakes than the cats myself. I'm not saying spitting cobras or anything, but your run of the mill chicken snake or king snake is more welcome than any feline. Cats do have a couple of admirable qualities though: they are good target practice....well one quality anyhow.
