I have had an invasion of the stuff this year. I have been meticulous in killing any through the years.
Some had to come in with a batch of hay.
It’s invasive as all get out.
Round up and Pronone pellets have been busy!
Got it knocked back, trying to keep from spraying Grazon and killing my clover seed bank.
Next is a jug of Velpar, have to sign loan papers to buy a jug.

I have a good bit of it also. If I remember correctly from ag class 50 years ago it is fairly nutritious feed, but it's so tough cattle won't eat it unless they're near starving.

A few years ago I saw an ad in a cattle magazine for a chemical that is specific for killing smut grass. I asked my fertilizer/weed sprayer guy about it, but he told me that it is also pretty rough on bahia grass, so I passed on it.

CB, you are on the right track. Grazon will not do much on smutgrass. TAMU, LSU, Florida and Georgia Extension all recommend Velpar for smutgrass

Grazon is to kill the seed bank, bad part about Grazon is it can’t tell seeds apart from one another.
That picloram works just as good on clover as smut grass.
