I have a 2019 F-150, a new but older version (2021) Verizon Motorola android phone and bought the smart phone last weekend predominantly to have access to navigation since my pickup doesn't have it installed and Ford wants over $800 for their versionn.
Now, I have to say right up front, that I know nothing about smart phones.............

The phone works fine for everything else. It connects via bluetooth to my pickup for hands free calling and messaging.

The google map thing works good as far as bringing up the route and visual directions and path, AND provides audio directions (in 1/4 mile, turn left onto....) IF, I'm at the Verizon store, but once I leave there, it is silent al the way to destination UNLESS destination is my driveway. As soon as I pull into the driveway, the audio works. It's almost as if google map is working off wifi only and used the wifi at Verizon store, then picks up my wifi router at home instead of connecting to mobile data while driving along..

We recently drove to Paris Texas and back (before I bought the phone) and my wife told me she had the same problem while using here phone for Google Maps while in my truck and the only way she got it to work was to turn off Bluetooth on her phone. Shouldn't have to do that.

Is there something about my truck that is causing this?
Anyone run in to this before?
Got a fix?

I know my Iphone navigation will go silent in my wifes car in two instances:
1. If I have Bluetooth turned on. I have no idea why, I haven't really looked into it. I would think the navigation voice would come through the cars speakers. Maybe there's a way to make that happen but I don't drive it enough.
2. If I have it plugged in to charge. Again, no idea why.

Probably a phone setting specific to the app.

Greybeard my experience is with slightly older Ford vehicles with earlier versions if Sync. What I have found is that with Bluetooth connected my phone is sending the audio to the vehicle but in order to hear it I have to manually change my audio source to Bluetooth the same as I would to listen to songs off my phone.

To clarify a bit I can not listen to the vehicle radio and get audible directions from Google maps on my phone at the same time connected to Bluetooth.

My 2016 ram and 2020ish model android does the exact same thing. Makes no sense.

We have the same issue with the phone going silent on google maps. Really irritating when it happens. 99% of the time I can turn the volume up on the phone when I think it should be talking and that'll fix the issue. Theres also a speaker button on the top of maps when it's giving directions. If you tap this button it gives you 3 options mute, ??, and volume. I just found thzt one out last weekend while traveling from Luling to Paris, Tx.

@greybeard , not to change the subject but hows the grass looking in your area. We've traveled around east, Tx the last few weekends between Paris and San Antonio and was suprised how green everything was. We also drove fom Belton across to Burnet and then down 281 to San Antonio and the grass was green. Everyone must have gotten the rains this year. We rarely take the Interstate since we're getting a little older. Takes longer but it's more relaxing and enjoyable to see the real country side.

Did you ever resolve this @greybeard?

@1982vett made a good suggestion about the cellular data but also looked for a speaker on the side of you screen when in good maps. It usually mutes the audio when you start driving. You have to unmute it so it will interrupt your radio or what ever with directions. Just be prepared because it may talk over phone calls also.

I believe this is the answer. If my Bluetooth is on I get no sound from my phone. I also have an Android. I can talk hands free in my truck, but nothing else. I would suggest turning off Bluetooth and see if it works then. I had the same problem as you until I figured it out.

Driving Focus settings?

Sure worth a look.
