That sounds like a state fair price. Thats pretty good for a county fair. I wonder what it will grade at?
 
I can see the video. Very cool - it's nice to know our youth programs get that kind of support. My congratulations to the young lady with the grand, and to everyone who works to get that kind of support for the youth livestock program there.

Winning our county fair will get you about a tenth of that. But that's okay - it's better than it was a few years ago.

I showed steers all the way through school. It started getting kinda crazy towards the end. People were giving twice for a calf what it would bring on sale day. I usually showed one I had raised. My parents bought the feed the money went to college. Been 25 years ago. I still trade exclusively at businesses that bought my calves on sale day.
 
Local 4-H Livestock Expo was here two weeks ago. High steer was $4.25/lb and high hog was $7.50/lb. I thought that was plenty crazy enough. I was amazed at the lack of thank you's I received after bidding on several hogs and steers. Only one child who's animal I didn't win came and thanked me for bidding. I then ran her hiefer ribbon up to $250 as I appreciated her gesture and character.
