I have a young simmental bull calf. That is 5 months old. He is looks nice with adequate muscle. He is starting to look like a bull.

Below is his projected epd's would you feel safe breeding him to heifers.

C.E- BW- WW- YW - MCE- Milk- MWW- MCE
5.60 2.25 34.30 58.80 5.90 5.85 22.95 16.10

I have a customer interested in the bull that would be using him to cover Senepol Cattle.

Personaly I would have no problems using him on my heifers, I just do not want to represent him as ok to use on heifers and a problem arise. Reputation is more important than a sale.

I would rather the the calving ease be a little better but other that that i feel he is a fairly balanced bull calf phenotypically and with moderate blanced EPD's.

I will continue to evaluate him as he matures. unless some unforseen accident happens he appears he will make a nice bull.

thanks, jeanne

I wanted your opinion in particular.

Your bull is BELOW breed average for CE and above breed avg for BW - No, I would NOT recommend him to be used on heifers by his EPD's.

That is what I was thinking. I did not feel he was a "heifer safe" bull and did not feel comfortable telling the fellow that he would work on heifers.
