I finally got my silver fox back from the taxidermy. Does anyone have any idea what he is worth? Ive been told they are very rare and worth a lot. I don't want to get ripped off if Cabelas was to want him. ;-)

I have bagged a few in Canada. Two in nothern Ontario and one outside of Valleyview in Alberta.

One was shot with a .22-250 and surprizingly little hide damage. The other two were taken with conibears.

Did not realize someone might want to buy them as mounts.

In my area at time of sale - the hides brought about a 30% - 50% premium depending on price fur prices at the time, and condition of fur.

In your case mount price plus artistic value plus of course fur price.

Neighbour trapped a couple of real nice fishers this spring - I think he is going to put them up as full mounts.

Yours looks real good - but in all honesty beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I do not know what they go for as art but the best price I got for a well turned out skin was just under 150 bucks.

They are not really rare - but they are truly something to look at.

Once again - yours is very well done - I would not consider selling - that one would go in the house - nice pic by the way.

How rare they are depends on your location. On Afognak island in Alaska about half the fox are silvers. They use to be worth a bunch but how with fox farms working on genetics they have plenty of them for the fur industry.
But I agree with Bez> in that I wouldn't consider selling it.

A freind of mine had a silver fox pup he had gotten in South Dakota years ago he kept him for a pet when the fox died many years latter he had him mounted but from what I rember the fox was almost a chcolate color and weighted close to 30#'s.
