I have a sick bull calf "Lucky". Suspicions of a type of brd. We gave him baytril a week ago and he perked up then it came back and another shot of baytril. No luck. Tried durapen for two days so far he is in bad shape today. Very lethargic foaming out his mouth weak still able to walk slowly and taking a bottle still just slowly. Not looking good for him. He is a 4 week old full Angus bull calf. I've called a few vets in the area being Saturday no luck even on their emergency lines. I have no clue how much a vet will charge for something like this plus being Saturday. My question is would the vet cost to save him be worth it versus bullet. Another question is BRD something that needs to be tested for to see if he infested the rest of my cattle? 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Don't inject drugs without purpose. If you do not have the level of experience to know what you are treating, you are committing a disservice in treating with drugs just "hoping" the drug will improve the malady.

Based on your description of symptoms, it would be only speculation to offer a treatment. Please try to get Veterinarian help or a neighbor who has sufficient experience to offer interim advice until you can get a Veterinarian.
 
Obviously contingent on your location & vet but mine only charges $30 for a trip charge. Does the calf have a temp? Banamine or aspirin for the fever or Resflor Gold has banamine in it (alternative to Nurfor). I'd also be tempted to drench with electrolytes & a shot of Vitamin B Complex.
 
Just did Banamine and electrolytes.... we have called 4 veterinary. (3 different counties) 3 we left messages on their emergency line and the 4th didn't treat cows. Lucky is still coughing has mucus coming. Please pray for our little calf 🙏🏾

What county are you residing in. Don't give your address, please. Just the county. I might be able to offer advice on getting a vet.

Lovely calves. I hope your vet comes. I will say again. Administering drugs without having any idea what you are treating is not the way to skin the cat.

I agree but sometimes you do what needs doing. We're talking calves not cats, she did have a one eye cat named Wink.
 
Thumbs up on giving him electrolytes, never hurts to keep a bottle calf hydrated.

I like BLUELITE C for bottle calves as an electrolyte energy boost, mix it right in his milk.

Looking pretty punky in the 1st pic but encouraging to see he's still taking a bottle. He does look a little thin, though. Maybe add ProBios (the gel in the tube) or even a raw egg in his bottle for protein & calories that won't upset his digestive system. Good luck and please keep us updated, hoping one of the vets will get back with you soon!
