Shy Unweaned Steer?

Put out a little grain and he was the only one who would not come to the bunk.
Took him for a walk and he just stood behind the rest.
Ran him into the chute and treated him, then he pigged out in the sick pen...

Have you seen this, and is there a simple fix?

Geez you have seen more cattle than most of us put together...............what do you think?

More bunk space may not help. Sounds like a bottom of the totem pole calf that has been well and truly putin his place at the bottom.

I have a habit of buying singles and small groups so I get more than my share of steers with low self esteem. :(

Sounds like I need to put him and a couple other wall flowers in their own pen for a while.

Once they hit grass they will do OK, but low self esteem and limited feed is a disease waiting to happen.

That sounds like a good plan. Seem like you always run out of pens.

Sick cattle don't eat, seems like a coincidence that he ate after you treated him.

I don't think he was sick, he was just shy in a large group.
