read in the paper today that there is a good possibility of the ban on canadian cattle will be lifted, have about 10 head of steers and 8 cull hiefers that i was planning on selling this fall, should i go ahead and wait or sell asap?? :o :o

If the border is opened tomorrow the numbers of cattle you think will head your way - will not.

Put 60 on board a truck - multiply that times 1000 trucks (where in the heck will they come from?) and you have 60,000 animals.

There are not enough trucks ready to go to come close to that number - plus animals have to be gathered and so on.

It will be a long time before there is any effect on your markets.

A drop in the bucket when compared to the U.S. of A. inventory.

If you are in the cattle business for the long haul, stay your course. Stick to your management plan. Don't know what conditions are like on your place. I altered my plans this year due to lack of rain. Sold culls early, so I could preserve grass for the keepers.

Sell, Sell, Sell like hell. Then kick yourself when the market either stays the same or gets better. OR pat yourself on the back when the market drops for what ever reason..........Sell, or keep em.... either way you do one or the other to yourself.......just try not to beat yourself up too bad if it's not to your liking. :cboy:

You need to look at your cost of gain (if you have cheap feed you do not have as much risk) and what else you would do with the feed and the cash (you may want to buy discounted cattle back).

Just don't go and spend the money on some iron that will rust away!

I am buying cattle right now... and I will know this fall if it was a good move. :)
